Having graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine with "Highest Distinction," that university’s equivalent of Summa Cum Laude, he finished Medical School at Indiana University with the same high level of recognition. He then traveled south to be trained at the top-notch programs at the University of Florida in General Surgery and under the esteemed Luis Vasconez at the University of Alabama Birmingham.
He joined The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery in 1998 bringing with him a special interest in Endoscopic and Minimal-Incision surgery. In addition to co-teaching the course "Rejuvenation of the Aging Mouth" with our other surgeons, he has spoken at the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery meeting presenting the Austin-Weston Center’s experience with liposuction and Abdominoplasty. Dr. Byron Poindexter is Board Certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Over the past few years he has been recognized as best in cosmetic surgery services by the Fairfax Times Newspaper and one of Top Plastic Surgeons by Northern Virginia Magazine.
In 2008, he served as the President of the National Capital Society of Plastic Surgeons. Outside of work, he has volunteered in community programs for tattoo removal in former gang members. He enjoys travel, architecture and design and is an avid equestrian.
