Lip Augmentation / Lip Surgery
Northern Virginia, Maryland & Washington, DC

The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery located in Reston, Virginia, specializes in facial surgery, including facelift, brow lift, rhinoplasty and neck sculpting for Northern Virginia, Maryland & Washington, DC.

A facelift can correct the aging of the lower face, a mid face lift can correct sagging cheeks, and blepharoplasty can correct aging eyes. However, these common procedures do not address issues that are concentrated around the mouth. If you are concerned about thinning of your lips, lengthening of the lip, downturned corners, or wrinkles around the lips, cosmetic surgery around the mouth can help you regain your youthful look.

Techniques for Mouth and Lip Surgery

At The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. George Weston, Dr. Robert Sigal, and Dr. Byron Poindexter are recognized as international authorities on this important but often overlooked area.  They provide innovative techniques for restoring a youthful look around the mouth and lips. These procedures include:

  • Lip Lift—modifies the central area of the upper lip
  • Corner Mouth Lift—focuses on the corners of the mouth
  • Resurfacing the perioral area—this procedure smoothes lines and wrinkles around the mouth
  • Direct excisions – removes excess tissues that accumulates around the nasolabial fold
  • Lip augmentation—creating fuller, more attractive lips

Aging often causes the upper lip to sag away from the nose, increasing the distance between the lips. In a lip lift, an incision is made just under the nose, and the skin is lifted to move the lip up. The scar is hidden in the crease below the nose.

A corner mouth lift can correct lips that appear to be turned down into a frown at the corners. A small triangle of skin is removed and the corners are lifted. A corner mouth lift can make a dramatic difference in the look of your mouth.

Peri-oral resurfacing is often achieved with lasers, effectively eliminating fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.

Direct excisions artfully remove excess tissue around the nasolabial fold and leaves a scar in a natural fold that is nearly invisible.

Depending on the look you wish to achieve, injectable fillers or fat might also be used to increase the fullness of the lips and to fill in lines and wrinkles around the mouth. These procedures can often be performed in combination to reduce cost and recovery time.

Recovery from Mouth and Lip Surgery

Injection of filler to plump-up the lips usually has little-to-no downtime.

Some swelling and bruising usually results after other mouth and lip surgery, and full recovery takes approximately one-to-two weeks. Post-operative instructions will tell you how to reduce side effects and speed recovery, and the Austin-Weston surgeons will check your progress during post-operative visits to ensure everything is going well.
